Initially an experimental trio formed in Bassano del Grappa in 2010, Mad Fellaz, comprised of Emanuele Pasin and Paolo Busatto on electric guitars and Marco Busatto on drums, soon added Carlo Passuello on bass, Enrico Brunelli on keyboards and Rudy Zilio on flute and clarinet. The group are influenced by a diverse range of vintage worldwide progressive artists such as King Crimson, Gentle Giant, Pink Floyd, Italian legends Area and Banco del Mutuo Soccorsso in addition to newer bands like Opeth and Porcupine Tree. Jazz, blues, metal, electronic and classical Italian progressive sophistication are all combined to fascinating results by this band, their objective being to find the highest creativity without musical limits or specific genre categorization, and always looking to express music naturally in exciting ways.

The Chorale Fantasy Alle Menschen müssen sterben op.52, 1 opens the last group of Reger's ""symphonic"" chorale fantasias. The piece in question is perhaps the most orchestral of them all and utilizes the bulk of all the instrumental registers on the organ in order to construct, in Reger's own words, a miniature symphonic poem for Organ. In this music, Reger operates with highly expressive intervals, and alternates the cantus firmus in all the voices of the texture. A noteworthy highpoint of the composer's output is Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme op.52, 2, which contains some of Reger's gravest, most profound, and moving music.

The fourth album by Smooth Genestar has become the most personal and emotional work so far. "Rétrospectif" offers a smooth and wide blend of Lounge, Downbeat, Chillout and Nu Jazz, influenced by the mood of classical music. So its no suprise, that classical instruments like Violins and Cello are playing an important role on the tracks. Besides that, deep and jazzy chords on the Rhodes, melancholic chords on the Grand Piano and moving Pads will complete a sound full of longings. Written at night to be enjoyed at night.

Manhattan Suite is a musical composition dedicated to New York and to the historical, social and architectural facets of its most famous neighbourhood. This work was written in 2008 after the reading of Delirious New York, an essay by the Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas analyzing the city, mostly its architecture and structure, from its foundation until modern times. Manhattan is not only history but also frenzy, movement, tradition and culture. Everything there has a story to tell and Manhattan Suite tries to translate these stories into music.

Ken McIntyre, a very underrated multi-reedist, developed fairly original styles on alto, flute, bass clarinet, oboe and bassoon. He made two fairly well-known sessions for New Jazz in 1960 and recorded for SteepleChase from 1974-78. However, McIntyre's pair of United Artists records from 1962-63 (his only dates as a leader during 1961-73) have been long overlooked. This double CD from 1997 has all of the music from the original LPs, plus eight previously unreleased cuts. All of the selections except "Laura" and "Speak Low" are McIntyre compositions.

Concert albums dating from the prime years of the British Invasion are rare the Beatles tried and failed at least twice to get what producer George Martin felt was needed for such a record; the Rolling Stones likewise never got their unadulterated concert sound down on tape for public consumption for more than ten minutes at a time, and most of the competition similarly never tried or didn't succeed in this endeavor, at least until a little later when the crowds had calmed down slightly.

Rather than play a watered-down version of bossa nova in New York studios (which was becoming quite common as the bossa nova fad hit its peak in 1962), flutist Herbie Mann went down to Brazil and recorded with some of the top players of the style. Guitarist Baden Powell and the group of then-unknown pianist Sergio Mendes, which included drummer Dom Um Romao, formed the nucleus for this generally delightful album. The music is as much Brazilian as it is jazz, this "fusion" works quite well.

Claude King and Johnny Horton were close friends in real life, and when Horton died King was groomed by Columbia Records to be his replacement. King had his own sound, but the two artists covered enough similar ground that King was right at home with Horton's songs. The title track is a heartfelt recitation on which King recalls Horton and their friendship, and the remainder of the album is drawn from Horton's hits (excepting a few personal favorites, like the early Horton composition "First Train Headin' South" and "She Knows Why," which Horton and King co-wrote). The historical folk song craze was itself history in 1968 when I Remember Johnny Horton was recorded, but the album's sincerity and celebration of a sadly missed friend is affecting in any era.

Most of this CD from Walter "Wolfman" Washington puts the focus on his voice, which is reminiscent of a young Ray Charles. The horn arrangements look back toward 1960s Motown, and five of the six tracks fall squarely into the idiom of pre-disco R&B, with touches of funk and gospel. "Peepin'" is a bit of a surprise, a minor-toned instrumental with Tom Fitzpatrick's soprano in the lead and some nice George Benson-ish guitar by Washignton. Even better are the last three tracks: the joyful blues "Tailspin," a minor blues ("At Night In the City"), and a bluesy ballad ("Don't Say Goodbye"). Wolfman Washington's versatility is quite impressive, making this a fairly memorable recording.

The premiere of the monumental Third Symphony Op.42 Ilya Murometz on 23rd March 1912 was a huge cultural and political event in Russia. A program symphony, the music depicts the life of Kievan Rus folk hero Ilya Muromets. The piece was dedicated to Alexander Glazunov, and won Reinhold Gliere his third Glinka Award. The work lasts between 70 and 80 minutes, and is divided into four sections, each of which depicts an episode from the epic. Gliere wrote a narrative in both Russian and French to accompany the score. On this recording Gabriel Feltz presents the remarkable work together with the orchestra Beogradska filharmonija and makes it clear that we should keep a closer eye on the works of this extremely interesting Russian late romantic.
